An account of the 1612 trial of the Pendle witches and their sensational trial at Lancaster, Assizes. The story of these extraordinary proceedings – and the events leading up to them – is here presented in a new light by the use of original records. It is a detailed and authentic account, but one which is exceptionally readable.
Similarly, the author uses still surviving records to relate many lesser known instances of witchcraft in the county. And just in case the book should cast a spell over the reader, there is a section on “the sovereign remedies against the evil power of witches.”
